Relief Printmaking

Cambridge Center for Adult Education,
Thursdays, 6:00pm-8:30pm, Starts September 21

Relief printing is well-known for its beauty and versatility as a medium, from elaborate woodblock prints to deceptively simple styrofoam prints. In this class, students will explore relief printing techniques using linoleum or rubber blocks, as well as more unconventional materials. Over the course of eight weeks, we will build our skills, finishing off with a two-color reduction print. Class time consists of presentations, technique demonstrations, and ample time to work and share feedback. This class is excellent for printmaking beginners, or for more experienced artists looking to broaden their scope!

Contemporary Collage

Albertine Press, Cambridge, MA

When was the last time you created a collage? In this workshop, go beyond magazine clippings and explore the multifaceted world of artistic collage. Students will learn the fundamentals of composition and color theory to aid them as they unleash their intuitive creativity. This workshop is excellent for artists of all levels who are looking to experiment with paper!

Landscapes in Watercolor

Monday December 11, 6:00pm-8:00pm

Capture the essence of a special spot in watercolor! In this two-hour workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of painting in watercolor, including washes, brush technique, and color mixing. We will also explore the particulars of painting landscapes, such as perspective and painting objects from nature. Using their own photographs as inspiration, each student will leave with a unique artwork and a sense of accomplishment. This class is ideal for beginners, but also open to those looking to expand their skill set.

Intro to Acrylic Painting

Find your creative voice in this introductory Acrylic Painting class! Acrylic paints are a fast-drying and versatile medium, so they are perfect for beginner painters. In this course, students will learn paint and brush handling, composition, and color mixing through demonstrations, presentations, and, of course, plenty of hands-on painting time. This course is designed for beginners, but open to anyone looking to pick up a new technique or hone their skills. 
A materials list will be provided prior to the start of class.

Imaginary Landscapes in Adobe Photoshop

Umbrella Arts Center, Thursdays, 6:30pm – 8:30pm, Starting April 28, 2022

From fantasy settings to surrealist collages, your imagination is the only limit on what you can create in Photoshop. In this course, students will learn the techniques of creating elaborate digital collages, using images from the internet, photographs, or personal artwork. Through presentations on a wide range of digital artists, demonstrations, and plenty of in-class work time, students will become confident creators of digital artwork. Some Photoshop experience will be helpful, but beginners are welcome!

Intro to Screen Printing

Cambridge Center for Adult Education,
Fridays, 7:45pm-9:45pm. Begins April 8

Screen printing, or silkscreen as it’s sometimes called, is a versatile print process perfect for both bold designs and soft painterly prints. In this class, students will learn the basics of screen printing at home, including using various forms of resist, printing on fabric, and creating a DIY exposure unit for making detailed stencils from printed transparencies. Over the course of 8 weeks, students will find inspiration in contemporary printmakers and learn through demonstration, hands-on work time, and opportunities for feedback from the class.

Mixed Media Collage

Cambridge Center for Adult Education, Fridays, 5:30pm-7:30pm. Begins April 8

This eight-week workshop is an introduction to the world of collage and mixed-media art-making. Collage is one of the most accessible and freeing artistic mediums. With a creative eye, nearly anything in your home can become a material for expression. In this class, we will look to collage artists throughout history and the world around us for inspiration. Through in-class demonstrations, students will learn a myriad of collage techniques, including cut-paper, 3-D collage, and creating collagraphs for press-free printmaking.
